BGC Cycle Philippines

3-Time Tour De France Green Jersey Sprinters’ Classification Winner Robbie McEwen headlines BGC Cycle Philippines again this year.

Cycling has always been there as a sports or a recreational activity.  It is only as of late that we are starting to make it a more viable means of transportation with cycling lanes being made and cycling events like BGC Cycle Philippines being promoted.  Last year, we had BGC Cycle Philippines for the first time and about 2,000 riders enjoyed riding in the car free streets of Manila.  This year, BGC Cycle Philippines returns with 2,400 cyclist spread out among the Tricycle Ride, The Kid’s Ride, The Junior Challenge, The Community Ride (20 km), The Challenge (40 Km) and the Ride with Robbie McEwen (40Km).  At the same time, different cyclist all around the country will be riding their bicycle for the Philippine National Bicycle Day, which will be held for the first time on November 23, 2014.  This is a sign of good things to come for the world of cycling.

“Bicycling is not only good for the environment but it’s also the solution of our transportation woes.  It is an efficient and fun way to get around and avoid getting stuck in traffic while getting the exercise you need to stay healthy without having to make the extra time to workout.” This is the message of the Philippine National Bicycle Day.

The highlight of the weekend would be the cycling events with the afternoon of November 22 reserved for the kiddie ride categories starting with the 30-minute Junior Challenge Ride followed by the Kid’s Ride and the Tricycle Ride.  There’s gonna be a wide range of fun activities too at Cycling and Lifestyle Expo at the Mind Museum on November 21 and 22.   This would be a good family bonding time for kids and parents with mascots, mime artists and fun treats from various sponsors.

Everything’s all set for BGC Cycle Philippines.

November 23 will have the adult ride categories which would also coincide with the Philippine National Bicycle Day.  The event will kick off with the Ride with Robbie with Australian Cyclist and 3-time Tour De France Green Jersey Sprinters Category Winner Robbie McEwen and to be followed by the 40 km Challenge Ride and the 20 km Community Ride and finally, the Foldies Community Ride.  Joining Robbie this year in the leadpack will be the Philippine National Cycling Team led Coach Chris Allison, KONA Ironman finishers and participants and finishers from the XTERRA Off-Road Triathlon World Championship in Maui.

BGC CycleAsia Philippines is being held in partnership with Sunrise Events Inc and Bonifacio Global City and is part of Cycle Asia, a network of premier cycling events being held across Asia.   “The growth of BGC Cycle Asia Philippines has been tremendous to see and now with its partnership alongside the Philippine National Bicycle Day is testament to just how popular the sport has become in the Philippines, the event is a real highlight of the Cycle Asia Calendar and I wish all the cyclists a great weekend of riding”. said Chris Robb, CEO of Spectrum Worldwide who owns CycleAsia.
