Team Philippines is Off to the SEA Games

Veloci Powered Team Philippines

We have a rich history when it comes to Athletics during the SEA Games and PATAFA (Philippine Athletics Track And Field Association) has stepped up the preparation and sourcing of athletes, which includes the recently revived Philippine National Open.  PATAFA was also able to secure partners in supporting out Athletes as they train for regional meets, Asian Games and the Olympics.  L TIMESTUDIO and VELOCI Time, two strong players in the Philippine watch industry, are joining forces and partnering with Marriott Hotel Manila to support our local heroes who will be competing at the 28th Southeast Asian Games. L TIMESTUDIO is the forerunner of a retail watch concept for fashion and sport timepieces while VELOCI Time, a homegrown watch brand boasting of stylish design, superior quality, and affordability, is likewise making a mark of its own in the Philippine watch industry.

In an apparent effort to regain the glorious era of Philippine athletics, the timing of the changing of the guards in PATAFA  couldn’t have been more impeccable. With Dr. Philip Ella Juico’s ascendancy to the post as the new Philippine athletics chief, members of Team Pilipinas athletics are all fired up to accomplish a spectacular performance in the upcoming 2015 SEA Games.  If the remarkable athletic achievements of the Philippine athletics team in recent international competitions are an indicator, Team Pilipinas Athletics stands to collect eight (8) gold medals in the upcoming biennial meet in Singapore. Banking on the solid and still improving best performances from the 36-strong athletics team, this scenario will be an easy feat. And with a few turns of good luck, a 12 gold medal haul possibility may not even be remote. The best finish of the Philippines in the SEAG was in 1983, also in Singapore, where it garnered 11 gold-12 silver-9 bronze medals.

Among the disciplines where the Philippines could strike gold are (men) hammer throw, 400m, 400m hurdles, 3000m steeplechase, 4x400m relay, decathlon, long jump, 800m, and pole vault. Considered as swing events, where a bronze medal is at least a high possibility, are (men) marathon, 1500m, 4x100m, 110m hurdles, discus throw, shot put; (women) long jump, 10,000m, and heptathlon.

The 2015 SEA Games will officially kick off on June 5. Two days after, the mettle of Team Pilipinas athletics will start to be tested. But as they have proven already, nothing is impossible with dedication, focus and tangible support. They have surpassed all challenges and obstacles before. The strong desire to bring honor to the country had carried them through. And this time around, the Philippine athletics team’s morale is at an all time high. The odds are in our favor and our time is now.
