Incoming: NatGeo Run 2016

Posted by on 7. March 2016

Nat Geo Run is a must run event in the racing calendar since it started 7 years ago.  It gathers thousands of runners all united for the cause of the environment. #NatGeoRun2016 gets even better with the run simultaneously happening in 5 Cities, Singapore, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Tai Chung and Manila on April 17, 2016.

Nat Geo Earth Day Run 2016

National Geographic Channel’s Earth Day Run is already an annual tradition for runners and eco-warriors for the past 7 years.  In celebration of seven years of promoting fitness and caring for the environment, Earth Day Run 2016 will be happening simultaneously for the first time in five cities across the region: Singapore, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Tai Chung, and Manila on April 17, 2016. Each city’s race will be using support from the registration of all participants to help raise money for World Wide Fund for Nature and its projects.

The Manila leg alone expects 20,000 runners to troop to the race which will start at BGC and end at McKinley West.  It’s gonna be a family and earth friendly event with 5K, 10K, 21K and 42K distances to choose from.  NGC will once again partner with Cherifer Premium to help make the Manila race its biggest Earth Day Run thus far. Combined with thousands of runners from the other cities, Earth Day Run 2016 will be the largest collection of running Eco Warriors in the history of the race.

NatGeo Run has been an annual tradition for me.

It’s not just about running for good health, it’s about running for a healthier environment. NGC’s Earth Day Run has consistently helped in promoting sustainable living and supporting environmental advocacy utilizing the popular platform of running in its seven years of operation. As a result, participation in Earth Day Run in the Philippines has increased year on year, allowing NGC to contribute significantly to various environmental causes. Through the previous Earthday Run, NGC was able to plant 36,000 fruit bearing trees in a watershed in the Abuan Watershed in Isabela.  In 2014, the proceeds were used for training fishermen affected by Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda) on how to make use of fiberglass boats.  Last year, NGC was able to provide portable solar-powered lighting kits to the Tawbuid Mangyan tribesfolk in Mindoro, giving them and Forest Rangers’ camps safe and sustainable light sources off the grid.

Online registration through the regional site http://www.natgeoearthdayrun.com, which leads to the Nat Geo EDR sites for each country. On-site registration for the Manila leg will be open until March 31 at the Ground Floor of SM Aura Premier in BGC.  Register Now and let’s run for the cause of the environment.
