Urbanathletes are those who dare take and finish the tough obstacle-laden race held by Men’s Health. Men’s Health was the first to introduce the obstacles into a road race event and it’s back again this year for another round of urbanathlon and this edition promises to be even more tougher. Dare to be an Urbanathlete? Conquer a distance of your choice between 5 kilometers, 10 kilometers and 21 kilometers and traverse the different obstacles like 8-foot wall, scaffolding maze, and monkey bars, you’ll have to go over an 8-foot container van, climb a 12-feet high rope, and conquer a 50-foot net stretched over a bus on your way to the finish line. It all happens in an urban setting of the SM Mall of Asia Grounds on September 29, 2013.
I’m sure you’ve got what it takes to be an urbanathlete. Let the legs do the running and let the heart empower you to conquer these obstacles. Obstacles are meant to be conquered and I know there’s the spirit in each of us who’d dare to be in this type of race and aching to test on these obstacles and conquer the distance too. Of course, Men’s Health would want you to be ready for the Urbanathlon so they will also holding an Urbanathlon Boot Camp on August 7 and 14 at Mercato Centrale, Bonifacio Global City so you can test the obstacles and get tips and workouts to get you ready by race day.
And don’t worry there’s absolutely no obstacles going to to the registration areas so head over to 360 Fitness Club Ortigas, Makati, and Quezon City, ROX at Bonifacio High Street, and Gold’s Gym in Alabang to register and be an Urbanathlete. Registration opens on August 1 and ends on September 25. Just in case, you still need convincing, finishers gets snacks from Century Tuna, Gatorade, Finishers Shirt from Bo Athletics, Finishers Medal and Completion Certificate and Urbanathlon Finisher Caps (for 21K only) aside from the singlet, timing chip, bib and a men’s health bandana you get upon registration. Of course, there’s the challenge and satisfaction of finishing one of the toughest obstacle races in the country. See you at the starting line.
3,000 participants came, run, climbed, crawled and conquered the first obstacle laden race in the country, Men’s Health Urbanathlon. The event combines the rigors of run with tough obstacles along the course. New obstacles were introduced and added to the classic ones. The Urbanathletes went on to several challenges including the scaffolding maze, the 8×40 container van, and “The Wall”, wherein you need all your upper and lower body strength to conquer this 8-foot beast; as well as, with the new obstacles this year, “The Network” a net challenge going over a bus and “The Tower”, a 12-foot high rope climb to the bell on top. 2014 Urbanathlon is even expected to be better.
The Men’s Health Urbanathlon and Festival is co-presented by Century Tuna, Gatorade, Bo Athletics, with major sponsors Bridgestone, Emperador Light, and Schick, with minor sponsors Havaianas, The Athlete’s Foot, Nivea Men, and special thanks to Merrell. Men’s Heath Philippines features Joseph Marco on its October issue cover, which is available in all leading bookstores and newsstands nationwide
