Incoming: #WalkHappy Weekend

Posted by on 1. April 2015

#BaguioCity has gathered droves of tourist, especially during the summer months or long weekends. Tourist love the cooler climate and the scenic areas in the city.  #WalkHappy encourages people to appreciate the city by walking (or biking, hiking, jogging, etc.).  This would help ease the traffic congestion and gives people a slower and a more refreshing view of the City.  #WalkHappyWeekend comes with run events covering 3, 5, 10 and 21 kilometers categories and a 5K walkathon event on May 9, 2015.  It would also have a photowalk happy event with Baguio Photographers club on May 10, 2015.   This is just the start of the #walkhappy lifestyle!!! Join Now.

Read About:

“Walk Happy! Baguio City!” is an advocacy campaign that promotes responsible tourism by encouraging everyone (especially tourists) to leave their cars at home or at the hotel and enjoy the City of Pines by walking.  Walking (or biking, hiking, jogging, etc.) promotes happiness and is a practical and ready solution to help ease our problems on traffic congestion and pollution. The campaign also promotes carpooling and the use of existing public transport systems to reduce our carbon footprint to get from point A to point B.

When I’m in my hometown, I never bring a car and just walk or run around the city.

Baguio is my home town and growing up in the City, I never was dependent on cars.  I walk my way to school, which is about a few kilometers from the house.   The market, session road and most areas are also easily accessible by foot or via our honest to goodness public utility vehicles.    It’s really faster to move around the city by foot especially during peak tourist season.  There’s also a lot to appreciate in the city from the cooler climate, the different tourist attractions and a lot of interesting food options.  The thing I like about the Baguio climate is that you can do walk or run anytime during the day since even on hot days, there’s a breeze that cools you down.   I also like joining the run events in the city as the running community is so intimate that it’s common for races to end with a simple breakfast of  hot pandesal and a cup of coffee.  With well paved road and scenic trails, it’s easy to create your own route when you go around the city.  I hope people do get to try out the Walk Happy lifestyle!!!

Walk Happy Weekend brings in the advocacy in run events that varies from a short 3 and 5 kilometer fun runs that’s a perfect opportunity for families and group of friends to run as a pack.  There’s a 10K and 21K distances for more experienced runners eager to try out Baguio’s tough hilly terrain.  There’s a 5 kilometer walkathon event for those who just want to enjoy the distance without any time pressure.  Then there’s the photowalk with Baguio Photography Club for those who loves photography and would want to immortalize Baguio Scenic attractions through their lens.   There will also a walk happy concert for music lovers in the City of Pines. The Walk Happy Weekend is just the start of the walk happy lifestyle. Join now!!!
