Baguio City

I’ve been in Manila for more than 10 years now but Baguio will always be my home.  It’s always nice to be in a climate about 10 degrees cooler than other parts of the country with inclines that gives you peeks at the different areas in the city and with the scent of pine that dominates the early misty morning air.  That’s probably the reason why it’s called the summer capital of the Philippines.  It’s also one of the best place to run and for a change why not take trek the hills and join a run 5,000-6,500 feet above sea level.

It’s happening again and it’s gone even longer and higher.  Baguio 2wenty 1ne will be offering 3K, 5K, 10K, 21K and even 32K distances.  I’ve registered for two stagings of this runs in 2011, the 10K distance but it coincided with my cousins wedding and in 2012, the 21K distance that had me missing because of car problems going home.   But it’s ON and I’m marking my calendar March 10, 2013, which is a day after my birthday. This is gonna be my birthday run and the third time’s gonna be a charm.  It’s gonna be cool. It’s gonna be challenging.  It’s gonna be an extreme uphill adventure and it’s offering a lot more in 2013.

The 32 kilometers distance is gonna take you 2,025 meters of elevation atop Mount Cabuyao, where the twin radar of Baguio rest.  I’ve tried the Radar Run last month and the view was just breathtaking from that altitude.  You’ll get to see the misty and foggy view of the city and surrounding towns and of course, the two disc-shaped radars that some joke about (including me) is the air con of Baguio City.  Of course, the other distance would also give you a nice view of the city as well as challenge those calf and quad muscles as they get to stride in an extreme uphill elevation.  The event is themed, “RUN TO RESTORE GREENERY” which will support Baguio’s reforestation program. “Feel the hills, feel the cool Baguio morning and most of all Conquer Baguio 2wenty 1ne.

Please show up this time Radar.
