IF

” The great moments of your life won’t necessarily be the things you do, they’ll also be the things that happen to you. Now I’m not saying you can’t take action to affect the outcome of your life, you have to take action, and you will. But never forget that on any day, you can step out the front door and your whole life can change forever. You see the universe has a plan kids, and that plan is always in motion. A butterfly flaps its wings and it starts to rain. It’s a scary thought but it’s also kind of wonderful. All these little parts of the machine constantly working, making sure that you end up exactly where you’re supposed to be, exactly when you’re supposed to be there. The right place at the right time.” How I Met Your Mother

An old professor once said that the saddest word in the dictionary consist of only two letters… “IF.” It always makes you end up wanting and aspiring for something different. Never happy for what is here but always looking back on what could have been. A hindsight perspective to see all the things that mattered and could have made a difference.

I suddenly remembered the word if. What if??? I don’t see much ifs and the more I look back, I somehow realize that everything has gone through the motion and everything is moving forward. Not really a perfect existence but something acceptable.

Then there’s always the timing on how events unfold. The right place at the right time. I can safely say that if some events came at different times, I could have done things differently but things do happen for a reason. If some events does not sound reasonable then you are still not at the right place and right time meant for you. In time, everything will make sense.

Every time, there’s an IF then there’s a rationale that you’ll come to see one day. I always want to believe that no matter how much we dwell on what could have been, life should still be lived moving forward. No amount of wishing to change a fragment of the past could bring you back to that moment and be able to change it but these are life’s lessons that can change the trajectory our destination.

Life is product of events and our reaction to events. This leads us a step closer to where we should be at the right place at the right time. =>

This post has hit me hehehe. I always dwell on the past and look at the “what ifs” of my life and wish I could change them. But you are right? There is no way I could change the things of my past that I want to change and I have to move/live forward. I have to learn that slowly and I am guessing I have to start now. But I definitely agree on this one. Thanks for the entry 🙂

My life has been a battle of ups and downs and there are these events that I could like to change because it hit me – the words “what if”. What if I could change what has happened, but I can’t and moving forward will always be in motion. Thank you for those kind words of motivation.

Great thoughts. Just what I need right now, no more IFs for me. I have to move on and look forward for things to come.

Naalala ko yung sinabi ni Lourd De Veyra, sa word of the lourd, but I am sure its a quotation from somebody else, which is absolutely true. “Their are no ifs in History” A thing done is cannot be undone. All we can do, is assess if its a mistake or its right, if its a mistake then learn from it, use it as a guide for the future

IF….what will happen if I did not do things or just ignore thing that I supposed to do before? I will never know the answer and the outcome, I will only end up wondering. Life is a gamble, no if ,no buts so we better do it.

I never knew the opening spiel of How I Met My Mother was so moving. Thanks for posting this “The great moments of your life won’t necessarily be the things you do, they’ll also be the things that happen to you.”. I will make it a status message in Special Education Philippines FB Page. 🙂

Great thoughts to ponder. While it’s good to always look back , it feels ultimately great to look forward.

I am always fascinated by Kiara’s words when she joined the latest cycle of America’s Next Top Model: College Edition.. she once said that we should not dwell in the past rather, we should celebrate it because it makes us who we are today.. 🙂
