Finally, An Anytime Fitness in Baguio

Finally, An Anytime Fitness in Baguio

Being an Anytime Fitness member, I’m happy that the purple brand hit the City of Pines.  I got a chance to test out their facilities and functional movement program over the weekend.

If there’s one thing I like about Anytime Fitness, it’s practically everywhere.  My main branch is at Paseo Center but I also get to work out in Jupiter, BGC, Pioneer among others.  You can practically go anywhere in the city and work out at Anytime Fitness after.  This is one of the reason why I got real excited knowing that there would be an Anytime Fitness in Baguio a few months ago from fellow running blogger Allan Ray Enriquez, who’s also part of the AF Team. Baguio is my hometown and it’s nice to have a go-to gym there too even if most of the times, I’m on the trails of Baguio.

I got the chance to check out Anytime Fitness over the weekend when I went home.  I just walked my way from my house at New Lucban to Anytime Fitness at The Camp in Leonard Wood Road.  That’s just a few kilometers away though it’s mostly uphill.  It’s a cool day, might as well have a few cardio run / walk before hitting the gym.  It’s a work in progress but most of the facilities are already available for use.  They have also friendly staff as they assisted me when they see me clueless on some of the machines.  I got to try a few machines as well as do some spinning before Allan assigned me my trainer for the day.

Orlando Smith Jr. (Jun) was assigned to me.  As I was talking to my cousin later that day, Jun was the same trainer that had him slim down last year.  The first order of business is to have a functional movement test.  A functional movement test helps assess on which area you need to strengthen.  I’m not a fan of fitness tests since I know I have a lot of weak points as an athlete.  I have weak core and overused knees from the years of running.

I like how Jun handled the test as he didn’t sound intimidating and would compliment me for doing the drills.  After the test comes the results and well,  I do have a lot of things to work on especially on loosening up the hips, strengthening my knees and core.  The functional movement test is just what I needed as I really need to strengthen myself before pursuing my next bucket list of racing adventures.

The Drills

After the tests, the fun part begins.  That also means, it’s time to work out.  I got some drills to strengthen and loosen up the knees and hips.  I did kettlebells as well as weight training to strengthen the various muscle group.  My trainer would note areas for improvements and bad habits.  I tend to lean forward on the exercise instead of being upright.  I also had some lunges to improve on my flexibility.  It was one exercise after another and Jun would check on the form and execution.  It’s nice that I got a good trainer for this one.  I also did more dynamic core workouts since it’s really my weak areas as it’s also the area I need to work on.  I also got to do some squats while slamming the bag.

Overall, it was a good workout and it’s nice that some of  the strengthening workouts can be done at home with mostly minimal use of equipment.  While I still have a long way to go, I’m glad I had the stamina to last the workouts and was able to recover fast.  I felt some improvements in my mobility as I felt a lot more comfortable moving in the trails the next day.  Now, I just need to form a new habit out of the results of my functional movement test.

On CloudX was real comfortable for my workout.
